Knockout Competitions

Club Championship

Open to both Ladies and Gentlemen. First drawn player is Challenger who is responsible for arranging the tie and marker – challenge must be made no later than 20 days before closing date

4 woods – first to 21 shots

Ladies Championship

4 woods, first to score 21 shots

First drawn player is Challenger who is responsible for arranging the tie and marker – challenge must be made no later than 20 days before closing date

Mens Championship

4 woods, first to score 21 shots

First drawn player is Challenger who is responsible for arranging the tie and marker – challenge must be made no later than 20 days before closing date

100up

4 woods, scoring as follows:

Nearest the jack 4 points
2nd nearest 3 points
3rd nearest 2 points
4th nearest 1 point

First to score 100 points or more points is the winner – in the event of a tie additional end(s) to be played

Drawn Pairs

Random drawn pairings, each playing 4 woods over 18 ends

First drawn pair are Challengers who are responsible for arranging the tie – challenge must be made no later than 20 days before closing date

David Martin Pairs

Self-chosen partners, each playing 4 woods over 18 ends

First drawn pair are Challengers who are responsible for arranging the tie – challenge must be made no later than 20 days before closing date

Dormer Shield Handicap

4 woods, first to score 21 shots

Player with highest handicap starts with a lead (e.g. if 6 handicap plays 3 handicap then 6 handicap starts with a 3 shot lead).  If both players have equal handicaps, they both start on nought

Scores are recorded from all Thursday afternoon Spoon Drives

Every player’s best 8 scores of the season are accumulated – the winner is the player with the highest accumulated scores

One Day Competitions

Two Woods

Afternoon tournament (final on Finals Day)

2 randomly drawn matches of 2 woods, 12 ends – yardstick rule applies (ie woods must be within a yard to score)

Semi-final between 4 players with highest scores  – aggregate scores used in event of ties

Even number of entries needed

Pairs, 3 woods – even number of entries needed

5 random drawn games of 8 ends
2 points/win, 1 point/draw (aggregate scores used in event of ties)
Top 2 pairs contest a final of 10 ends on Finals Day, or before if agreed

Pont Cup

Afternoon tournament – closing date for entries 7 days in advance (max 24 players)

Singles (3 woods per player and 4 players per rink)
Each player keeps their own score (shot =3 points, 2nd=2 points, 3rd=1 point)
No ditchers (including touchers) count
Starting rinks randomly drawn
5 sets of 4 ends (tea after 3 sets)

Within each set sequence of play and 1st end lead determined as follows:
Set 1 – sequence and lead as per random draw
Sets 2-5 sequence and lead dependent on total score over previous sets (highest 1st, next 2nd etc)

For all sets, maintaining existing sequences, the lead for ends 2-4 will be the player taking shot on the previous end
At the end of sets 1-4 the 3 highest scoring players for that set move up a rink (1 to 2, 2 to 3….6 to 1)
In the event of a tie after 5 sets all tied players will play one end together with final places being determined by the 3, 2, 1 scoring of their woods

Bill Smaldon Trophy

Afternoon tournament – closing date for entries 7 days in advance (max 24 players)

Singles (4 woods per player and 4 players per rink)
Set mat and jack for every end
Each player keeps their own score (shot=3points, 2nd=2 points, 3rd=1 point)
No ditchers (including touchers) count
Starting rinks randomly drawn
4 sets of 5 ends (tea after 3 sets)

Within each set sequence of play and 1st end lead determined as follows:
Set 1 – sequence and lead as per random draw
Sets 2-4 – sequence and lead dependent on total score over previous sets (highest 1st, next 2nd, etc)
At the end of sets 1-3 the 3 highest scoring players for that set move up a rink (1 to 2, 2 to 3…..6 to 1)
On completion of 4 sets the 4 leading scorers will play a 5th set of 5 ends, lead and sequence of play again determined by total score over previous sets, the winner being the player with the highest score in this set
For all sets, maintaining existing sequences, the lead for ends 2-5 will be the player taking shot on the previous end
At all stages, except for a tie in the final 5th set, ties shall be decided by the most 6,5,4,3,2,1 points scored
A tie in the final 5th set to be decided by tied players playing 1 more end with a 3,2,1 scoring of their woods

Mixed Triples

Max 30 players

3 woods, randomly drawn teams
3 pairs of 8 ends
Teams can choose their order of play (which must be the same for all their games)
No trial ends, all shots count
Jack out of play – 2 shots to opponents and the end counts
2 points/win, 1point/draw (aggregate scores used in event of ties)
4 top sides in semi-final and winners contest the final

Mixed pairs

Max 12 ladies and 12 gentlemen
4 woods, randomly drawn pairs
3 games of 8 ends in 2 groups of 6 pairs
2 points/win, 1point/draw (aggregate scores used in event of ties)
Top pairs from each group contest the final

Kiwi 2x4x2

Max 24 players
4 woods, randomly drawn pairs
Each pair to play every other pair, number of ends to be specified on the day
1st end: player B of each pair goes to head, player A of each pair bowls 2 woods, players swop positions, players B bowl 4, players swop positions, players A bowl 2
Next end: players B bowl 2, players A bowl 4, players B bowl 2, swopping positions as appropriate

And so on
